a large group of the earlier people 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
