The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 it will be a hard day 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 scorching the flesh; 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
