The elders of Pharaoh's people said: 'Surely this man is a skilful magician 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 They said (unto Pharaoh): Put him off (a while) - him and his brother - and send into the cities summoners, 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and said: 'Shall we have a reward if we win?' 113 He said: Yes, and you shall certainly be of those who are near (to me). 114 They said: "O Moses! Either thou shalt throw [thy staff first,] or we shall [be the first to] throw." 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 Then We revealed to Moses: 'Now, throw down your staff' And thereupon it swallowed up their false invention. 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 And the sorcerers prostrated themselves 120 And said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 "And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims." 126
