The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two]. 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed. 9 Then he called upon His Lord: “Verily I am vanquished; so come You to my aid.” 10 Thereupon We opened the gates of the sky for water to pour down, 11 And We opened up the springs of the earth; and the waters met for a decreed end. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 And certainly We left it as a sign, but is there anyone who 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 17 TO THE TRUTH gave the lie [the tribe of] Ad: and how severe was the suffering which I inflicted when My warnings were disregarded! 18 On an unfortunate day We sent upon them a continuous violent wind 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished! 22
