A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 neither cool nor good. 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
