Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 Glad with their endeavour (for their good deeds which they did in this world, along with the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism). 9 In a high Garden 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And linen spread out. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
