The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
When the sun shall be wound round, 1 And when the stars shall dart down, 2 And when the mountains are driven. 3 And when the camels big with young are abandoned, 4 And when wild animals are herded together. 5 when the seas are set boiling, 6 when the souls shall be rejoined (with their bodies), 7 when the buried female infant is asked 8 for what sin she was killed, 9 when the scrolls shall be unrolled, 10 And when the sky is stripped away 11 And when Hell-fire shall be kindled to fierce ablaze. 12 And when the Garden shall be brought nigh, 13 then every soul will discover the consequence of its deeds. 14 I swear by the receding stars, 15 that hide, 16 and the night that falls, 17 The rising dawn, 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 [the word] of one to be heeded, and worthy of trust! 21 (O people of Makkah), your companion is not mad; 22 And indeed he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] in the clear horizon (towards the east). 23 He is not chary of making public what is unknown. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 So where are you going? 26 This is merely a reminder to all mankind; 27 For those of you who desire to walk the path that is straight, 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
