a large group of the earlier people 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 [shadows] neither cooling nor soothing. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Do you yourselves create it, or are We the Creators? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
