The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 there is no denying its coming 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And shade extended 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
