He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him you attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
