And indeed We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Travel by night with Ibadi (My slaves) and strike a dry path for them in the sea, fearing neither to be overtaken [by Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] nor being afraid (of drowning in the sea)." 77 Pharaoh followed them with his hosts, but they were overwhelmed by the sea; 78 The Pharaoh and his people had gone away from guidance. 79 O Children of Israel! We delivered you from your enemy, and we made a covenant with you on the holy mountain's side, and sent down on you the manna and the quails, 80 (Saying): Eat of the good things wherewith We have provided you, and transgress not in respect thereof lest My wrath come upon you: and he on whom My wrath cometh, he is lost indeed. 81 but to whosoever repents, believes and does good deeds, and is at last guided, I am Forgiving' 82 ۞ And (it was said): What hath made thee hasten from thy folk, O Moses? 83 He said: "They are close behind me, and I hastened to You, Lord, that You may be pleased with me." 84 He said: So surely We have tried your people after you, and the Samiri has led them astray. 85 Then Musa (Moses) returned to his people in a state of anger and sorrow. He said: "O my people! Did not your Lord promise you a fair promise? Did then the promise seem to you long in coming? Or did you desire that wrath should descend from your Lord on you, so you broke your promise to me (i.e. disbelieving in Allah and worshipping the calf)?" 86 They said: "We did not break our promise to you of our own will, but we were made to carry the loads of ornaments belonging to the people, which we threw (into the fire), and so did Sameri. 87 Then he produced for them a calf, of saffron hue, which gave forth a lowing sound. And they cried: This is your god and the god of Moses, but he hath forgotten. 88 Did they not see that it could not return to them any speech and that it did not possess for them any harm or benefit? 89
