The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
The Hour of Resurrection drew near and the moon split asunder. 1 (Regardless of any Signs these people see), they turn away and say: “This is an ongoing sorcery.” 2 They have rejected it and have followed their own desires, but all matters will be settled (by God). 3 Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, 4 Wisdom consummate. But warnings avail not. 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts. 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 So he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help. 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 And We carried him upon a thing of planks and nails, 13 That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 plucking up men as if they were stumps of uprooted palm-trees. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will pay heed? 22
