These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 neither cool nor good. 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
