The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 And [by] the sky and He who constructed it 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 Truly he succeeds that purifies it, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 What time the greatest wretch of them rose up. 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
