The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
