The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Mount (Sinai), 1 And by oath of a passage, written 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 by the House inhabited 4 and the uplifted roof 5 and the sea that is full 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 Who are playing in falsehood. 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
