We created man out of dry clay, from moulded mud, 26 And the Jinn race, We had created before, from the fire of a scorching wind. 27 Your Lord said to the angels, "I am about to bring into being a man wrought from mud. 28 "When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him." 29 Thereupon the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together, 30 Except Iblis. He refused to bow with the adorers. 31 God asked Iblis, "What made you not join the others in prostration?" 32 He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud." 33 "Go hence, execrable," (said the Lord), "from this place, 34 "And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)." 35 Iblis said: "My Lord! Grant me respite till the Day when they will be resurrected." 36 (Allah) said: "Respite is granted thee 37 Till the period of the time made known. 38 He said, "My Lord, since You have let me go astray. I shall make the path of error seem alluring to them on the earth and shall mislead them all, 39 "Except Thy servants among them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)." 40 He (Allah) said: 'This is for Me the Right Path 41 Indeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators. 42 And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 It has seven gates; for every gate there shall be a separate party of them. 44
