The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And pollution shun. 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
