The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 Truly he succeeds that purifies it, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)! 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
