The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
A doubter once demanded that punishment be immediately meted out, 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and all those on earth. 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 tearing away his skin! 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 except those that pray 22 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 They will live in gardens with honour. 35
