Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
