Mary (Maryam)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. 1 This is the remembrance of the mercy of your Lord upon His bondman Zakaria. 2 Behold! he cried to his Lord in secret, 3 He said: My Lord! surely my bones are weakened and my head flares with hoariness, and, my Lord! I have never been unsuccessful in my prayer to Thee: 4 Lo! I fear my kinsfolk after me, since my wife is barren. Oh, give me from Thy presence a successor 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 "O Zachariah," (it was) said, "We give you good news of a son by name of John.' To none have We attributed the name before." 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a boy when my wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age?" 8 He answered: "So shall it be." Your Lord says: "It is easy for Me," and then added: "For beyond doubt, I created you earlier when you were nothing." 9 He said: my Lord appoint for me a sign. Allah said: thy sign is that thou shalt not speak unto mankind for three nights, while sound. 10 So he went forth to his people from his place of worship, then he made known to them that they should glorify (Allah) morning and evening. 11 O Yahya! hold fast the book. And We vouchsafed unto him wisdom, while yet a child. 12 And tenderness from Us and purity, and he was one who guarded (against evil), 13 and cherishing to his parents. Never was he insolent or rebellious. 14 Peace be on him on the day of his birth, and on the day of his death, and peace will be on him on the day he is raised up to life again. 15
