۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They said, 'What, hast thou come to us with the truth, or art thou one of those that play?' 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 (When the people came to the temple and saw the broken idols) they asked each other, "Who has done this to our gods? He certainly is an unjust person". 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 'Abraham' they said, 'was it you who did this to our gods' 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 With their heads cast down they said, "Abraham, you know that idols do not speak. How then can you ask such a question?" 65 He said, “What! You worship, instead of Allah, one that neither benefits you nor harms you?” 66 "Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allah! Have you then no sense?" 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham." 69 And they intended to do him an evil, but We made them the worst losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 and appointed them leaders to guide by Our Command and We revealed to them to do good deeds, and to establish the prayer, and the giving of charity, and they were for Us worshipers. 73 And unto Lot we gave judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the community that did abominations. Lo! they were folk of evil, lewd. 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
