The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 It will be a place of return 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
