Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
KAF HA YA 'AIN SAD. 1 A mention of the mercy of thy Lord unto His servant Zachariah. 2 when he cried to his Lord in secret. 3 He said, "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy. 4 And verily I fear my kindred after me, and my wife hath been barren; so bestow on me from before Thee an heir. 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." 7 He said: O my Lord! when shall I have a son, and my wife is barren, and I myself have reached indeed the extreme degree of old age? 8 He (the angel) said, “So it is; your Lord says, ‘This is easy for Me – in fact I created you before this, at a time when you did not exist.’” 9 He said: My Lord! give me a sign. He said: Your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health. 10 So he came out to his people from the prayer chamber and signaled to them to exalt [Allah] in the morning and afternoon. 11 (And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold fast the Scripture. And we gave him wisdom when a child, 12 and We also endowed him with tenderness and purity, and he was exceedingly pious 13 And kind to his parents, neither arrogant nor disobedient. 14 So peace on him the day he was born, the day he will die, and the day that he will be raised from the dead. 15
