▼ 74 The Hidden Secret
Al-Muddath-thir 2 of 2
Nay, by the moon, 32 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 33 and the morn when it dawns! 34 surely (Hell) is one of the greatest Signs, 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 [On the Day of Judgment,] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever [evil] he has wrought 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 In gardens, they shall ask each other 40 About the guilty: 41 "What took you into the hell?" 42 They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer, 43 nor did we feed the destitute. 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who entered into vain discourses. 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 Until there came to us the certainty." 47 So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay, but everyone of them desireth that he should be given open pages (from Allah). 52 No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. 53 but this is truly a reminder. 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
