Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
