The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
