a good many of olden times, 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
