He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And he feareth 9 you pay him no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
