Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
