Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Kaf. Ha'. Ya'. Ayn. Sad. 1 (This is) a recital of the Mercy of thy Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 When he softly prayed to his Lord. 3 And said: "O my Lord, my bones decay, my head is white and hoary, yet in calling You, O Lord, I have never been deprived. 4 Indeed, I fear my kinsmen who will succeed me, for my wife is barren. Grant me a kinsman 5 Inheriting me and inheriting the Children of Ya'qub; and make him, my Lord, acceptable! 6 (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." 7 'How shall I have a son, Lord' he asked, 'when my wife is barren, and I am advanced in years' 8 Allah said: even so! Thy Lord saith: it is unto Me easy, whereas surely I created thee afore when thou wast not aught. 9 Zechariah said: "Lord, grant me a Sign." Said He: "Your Sign is that you shall not be able to speak to people for three nights, though you will be otherwise sound." 10 Then he came out from the Sanctuary to his nation, and gestured to them to exalt (their Lord) at the dawn and at the evening. 11 'O John, take the Book forcefully'; and We gave him judgment, yet a little child, 12 And piety (for all creatures) as from Us, and purity: He was devout, 13 And kind to his parents, and he was not overbearing or rebellious. 14 And Peace be unto him the day he was born and the day he dieth and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
