[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time; 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
