The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons standing before him, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
