Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the break of Day 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
