The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ ALIF LAM RA. These are the verses of the Book and the perspicuous oration. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth). 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 They say: 'You to whom the Remembrance is sent down, you are indeed mad. 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We send not the angels down save with judgment, and then they would not be respited. 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 And indeed We sent Noble Messengers before you, to the former nations. 10 And never does a Noble Messenger come to them, but they mock at him. 11 Even so do We [now] cause this [scorn of Our message] to pervade the hearts of those who are lost in sin, 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 They will say all the same: "Our eyes were dazed (and clouded over). We were a people ensorcelled." 15
