He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 You neglect. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
