The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
