The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Hour is drawing near, and the moon is split (in two). 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 They have rejected it and have followed their own desires, but all matters will be settled (by God). 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 The pinnacle of wisdom – so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? 5 Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair, 6 Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 so he cried out to his Lord, saying, "I am overcome, so help me!" 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 And We made water to flow forth in the land in springs, so the water gathered together according to a measure already ordained. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 that ran on under Our Eyes, a recompense for him because he had been disbelieved. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 We indeed sent towards them a severe windstorm, on a day the ill luck of which lasted upon them forever. 19 Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. 20 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning. 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
