The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and for aspiration to involve them in play – so they will shortly come to know. 3 Not one habitation have We destroyed but at the time determined for it. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 They say: 'Thou, upon whom the Remembrance is sent down, thou art assuredly possessed! 6 Why do you not bring down the angels, if what you say is true' 7 We do not send down angels except for a genuine purpose, at which time none will be given any further respite. 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 And indeed We sent Noble Messengers before you, to the former nations. 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 This is how We make the mocking* enter the hearts of the guilty. (* The acts of disbelief.) 12 They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples. 13 And even if We open to them a gateway of heaven, so that they ascend into it all the while, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
