The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat)
182 verses, revealed in Mecca after Animals (Al-An 'aam) before Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by (the angels) who stand in ranks, 1 and restraining [from evil] by a call to restraint, 2 and conveying [to all the world] a reminder: 3 Verily your God is One, 4 Lord of the heavens and the earth, and of what between them is Lord of the Easts. 5 He decked the nearest heavens with ornaments of stars, 6 Protecting them against every wayward devil, 7 So that they are not able to listen to the angels of higher (echelons), and are pelted from all sides 8 cast out [from all grace,] with lasting suffering in store for them [in the life to come]; 9 Except him who snatches off but once, then there follows him a brightly shining flame. 10 Just ask their opinion: are they the more difficult to create, or the (other) beings We have created? Them have We created out of a sticky clay! 11 Nay, but thou dost marvel when they mock 12 And when they are reminded, they remember not. 13 And seek to scoff when they behold a portent. 14 And say: "This is only magic. 15 Is it ever possible that after we die and are reduced to dust and (a skeleton of) bones, we will be raised to life? 16 “And also our forefathers?” 17 Say: 'Yes, but worthless' 18 So it shall only be a single cry, when lo! they shall see. 19 They will say, "Ah! Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment!" 20 “This is the Day of Judgement, which you used to deny!” 21
