To whosoever blinds himself from the Remembrance of the Merciful, We shall assign him a satan so he is his companion, 36 And most surely they turn them away from the path, and they think that they are guided aright: 37 Till, when he cometh unto Us, he saith (unto his comrade): Ah, would that between me and thee there were the distance of the two horizons - an evil comrade! 38 Because of the harm you did, it would be of no benefit to you today, you are partners in the punishment. 39 Canst thou then make the deaf to hear, or give direction to the blind or to such as (wander) in manifest error? 40 But whether We do [or do not] take thee away [ere thy message prevails] - verily, We shall inflict Our retribution on them; 41 Or (if) We show you that wherewith We threaten them, then verily, We have perfect command over them. 42 So hold fast to what has been revealed to you. You are truly on the right path. 43 And verily it is an admonition unto thee and thy people; and presently ye will be questioned. 44 Yet [above all else,] ask any of Our apostles whom We sent forth before thy time whether We have ever allowed that deities other than the Most Gracious be worshipped! 45
