Alshu'araa' 2 of 11
When your Lord called out to Moses, saying, "Go to the wrongdoing people, 10 “The nation of Firaun; will they not fear?” 11 He said: My Lord! Lo! I fear that they will deny me, 12 And that my breast will tighten and my tongue will not be fluent, so send for Aaron. 13 Moreover, they keep a grave charge [pending] against me, and I fear that they will slay me." 14 The Lord said, "Have no fear, both of you go with Our miracles. We shall closely listen to you." 15 So go you to Pharaoh, and say, "Verily, I am the Messenger of the Lord of all Being; 16 (Saying): Let the Children of Israel go with us. 17 [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said [to Musa (Moses)]: "Did we not bring you up among us as a child? And you did dwell many years of your life with us. 18 Yet you committed the deed you did, surely you are one of the ingrates." 19 Moses replied: "I committed that act erringly. 20 "So I fled from you when I feared you. But my Lord has granted me Hukman (i.e. religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood), and appointed me as one of the Messengers. 21 And this is the favour with which you taunt me -- that you have enslaved the Children of Israel?" 22 Fir'awn said: and what is the Lord of the worlds? 23 (Moses) said: Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye had but sure belief. 24 Said [Pharaoh] unto those around him: "Did you hear [what he said]?" 25 Moses said: "(He is) Your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore." 26 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "Verily, your Messenger who has been sent to you is a madman!" 27 Moses continued, "He is the Lord of the East and West and all that is between them, if only you would think". 28 'If you take any other god except myself' he (Pharaoh) replied, 'you shall be thrown into prison' 29 (Moses) said: "Even though I have brought to you something convincing?" 30 [Pharaoh] answered: "Produce it, then, if thou art a man of truth!" 31 So he cast down his rod, and lo! it was an obvious serpent, 32 And he drew out his hand, and it appeared [shining] white to the beholders. 33
