We sent to the tribe of Thamud their brother Salih so that they would worship God, but they became two quarrelling groups. 45 'My nation' he said, 'why do you wish to hasten evil rather than good? Why do you not ask the forgiveness of Allah, in order that you find mercy' 46 They said: "We augur ill of you and those who are with you." Salih replied: "Your augury is with Allah. The truth is that you are a people who are being tried." 47 Now in the city there were nine persons who did corruption in the land, and put not things right; 48 they said, 'Swear you, one to another, by God, "We will attack him and his family by night, then we will tell his protector, We were not witnesses of the destruction of his family; and assuredly we are truthful men."' 49 And so they devised an evil scheme; but We devised a subtle scheme (of Our own), and they perceived it not. 50 and behold, how was the end of their device! For We destroyed them and their people all together. 51 and [now] those dwellings of theirs are empty, [ruined] as an outcome of their evil deeds. In this, behold, there is a message indeed for people of [innate] knowledge 52 And We rescued those who accepted faith and used to fear. 53 And Lot, he said to his nation: 'Do you commit indecencies with your eyes open! 54 Must you go lustfully to men instead of women? Indeed, you are a people who are deeply ignorant." 55 ۞ There was no other answer given by his people except that they said: "Drive out the family of Lout (Lot) from your city. Verily, these are men who want to be clean and pure!" 56 We therefore rescued him and his family, except his wife; We had decreed that she is of those who will remain behind. 57 And We rained down on them a shower (of brimstone): and evil was the shower on those who were admonished (but heeded not)! 58
