And, verily, Yunus (Jonah) was one of the Messengers. 139 When he ran to the laden ship, 140 And lots were cast (when a storm overtook them), he was rejected, (and thrown overboard). 141 then the whale swallowed him down, and he blameworthy. 142 Had he not been one of those who glorify Allah, 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a bare desert whilst he was sick. 145 And We caused to grow up for him a gourdplant. 146 And We sent him towards a hundred thousand people, in fact more. 147 And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?- 149 Or created We the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say, 151 That “Allah has offspring”; and indeed, surely, they are liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What ails you that you judge in such a wise? 154 Then will you not be reminded? 155 Do you have any clear authority for such claims? 156 Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful! 157 They have established a kinship between Allah and the angels; and the angels know well that these people will be arraigned (as culprits). 158 Glorified is Allah! (He is Free) from what they attribute unto Him! 159 except the servants of God, sincere and devoted. 160 So surely you and what you worship, 161 Not against Him can you cause (any) to fall into trial, 162 unless it be such as rushes towards the blazing fire [of his own accord]! 163 (Those ranged in ranks say): "Not one of us but has a place appointed; 164 Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks, 165 And we are most surely they who declare the glory (of Allah). 166 What though they would say, 167 "If only we had a tradition [to this effect] from our forebears, 168 We would have been the chosen servants of Allah." 169 They therefore denied it, so they will soon come to know. 170 And assuredly Our word hath already gone forth Our bondmen, the sent ones: 171 That they verily would be made triumphant. 172 And that Our hosts, they verily would be the victors. 173 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) awhile, 174 Watch them: they will soon see. 175 Do they want to suffer Our torment immediately? 176 But when it shall descend in their court, evil shall then be the morning of the warned ones. 177 Leave them alone for a while, 178 And see thou: they themselves shall presently see. 179 Your Lord, the Lord of Honor, is too exalted to be considered as they describe Him. 180 And peace be upon the Envoys; 181 And all the praise and thanks be to Allah, Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 182
