Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HA MIM. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
