The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 Whenever they see a miracle, they turn away from it and say, "This is just a powerful magic". 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 Containing consummate wisdom; yet warnings were of no avail. 5 Therefore, turn away from them. On the Day when the Caller summons them to a terrible thing, 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 So he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help. 10 So We opened the gates of heaven with water pouring forth. 11 And We made the earth break forth with springs; so that the water met for an affair already decreed. 12 We carried him in a well built, watertight vessel made from planks (of wood) 13 Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 17 (The tribe of) A'ad rejected warnings. Then how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings. 18 Surely We sent on them a tornado in a day of bitter ill-luck 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
