The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
