He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 Olives and dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
