The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Sky and the Night-Visitant (therein);- 1 And what will make you to know what At-Tariq (night-comer) is? 2 The very brightly shining star! 3 There is no soul but has a protector over it. 4 So let man consider of what he is created: 5 he has been created out of a seminal fluid 6 That issued from between the loins and ribs. 7 Surely He (the Creator) has the power to bring him back (to life). 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 Then will (man) have no power, nor any helper. 10 By the sky with its returning rain, 11 And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants) 12 Behold this is the Word that distinguishes (Good from Evil): 13 not a flippant jest. 14 They are cunningly devising, 15 And I am planning a scheme. 16 So bear with unbelievers with patience, and give them respite for a while. 17
True are the words of God the Almighty.
